Urban forestry

Connecting the Urban Forest to the Wild Forest.
Picture

Making Systems Whole

Picture
Growing trees in an urban environment has been a specialized subject, one quite far from Forestry as practiced in the national forests. Urban have unique challenges, on many levels. The Biotic Pump brings all of these differences together, as we deepen our understanding of the whole system and better understand our own role in it. Urban Forestry is in a unique position to address many of the human ills that come from living in the city AND address the climate instability that threatens city resilience at the same time! We are SO excited to partner with Urban Foresters to bring these dreams to reality, to make our cities healthy, vibrant places to live and work.

The importance of trees (urban forests) to human well-being cannot be underestimated. Research dome the impact of trees lost to the ash borer indicated an increase in hart issues, strokes, and mental health issues, after the trees were removed. Crime is reduced where trees are planted. The need for natural cooling as temperatures rise makes the up to 15 degrees difference between treed spaces and spaces without trees significant!
