Jim's Retired
Jim Archuleta worked 28 years for the US Forest Service, both as a soil scientist and a physical scientist. His career and experience was mostly in the wet and dry environments of the PNW. Those experiences include wildfire as a firefighter, resource advisor and rehabilitation (Burned Area Emergency Response) team leader. As a soil scientist he has worked in project soil analysis, mine analysis and rehabilitation of damage lands. Among the methods used was Forest derived biochar, to help increase water-holding and nutrient-holding capacity in the soil.
In the last 5 years of his career, he worked within the FS State Private Tribal Forestry (SPTF), as the Region 6 Wood Innovations Grant coordinator. This program helps support projects and companies, who use Small Diameter Timber (SDT) in commercial products, that can help reduce wildfire risk. The program focused on Mass Timber, Wood Energy and Biochar.
He has co-authored several of the publications we offer on biochar on our Resource page.
